Who I Was

Hi, my name is Trinidad Hurtado. My goal is to introduce myself and tell how God brought me, through some events in my life, to this area of service.

At the time I did not realize that God was training me for the work he would later have me do. You see, many people on the streets are people who never realized the need to stop running. This is just one way that God has allowed me to be a help so many homeless.

People often ask, "What is different about The Baptist Temple Rescue Mission from other rescue missions?" This is a very good question. I will address it by pointing out five areas of difference that a person will face when coming to The Baptist Temple Rescue Mission.

I. You must have a clear testimony of your salvation

          - This gives me an opportunity to sit down with each individual and present the Gospel to them.
- A person cannot serve God with all of his heart if he is not even sure that he is going to heaven.
- God has allowed me the privilege of seeing many souls saved as a result of this very first aspect of The Baptist Rescue Mission.
- Many people know the right answers concerning salvation and they may try to fake a profession. If this happens we have not failed we have just begun the process of letting them know what the Bible says about being saved. In time, many have grown to understand about the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then receive Christ. Remember, they have heard many salvation plans.

II. You must agree to attend Church services at Baptist Temple

This includes: Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and if they are not working they are to attend Wednesday evening services and Thursday night church wide soul-winning. They are to be present at all revival meetings and conferences of the church and Saturday night services held on the Mission property. They are not allowed to get a job that will hinder their faithfulness to either service held on Sunday.

III. We will not only help you find a job but we will make sure that you have transportation to and from work.

          - This allows them to be able to say they have transportation.
- This also allows us to initiate some accountability for them.
- If a person does not have transportation he must then rely on the day-labor halls or the city bus. Both are non-productive.

IV. each time you get paid, we sit down together and work through a budget form

          - The budget form shows: income, expenses, daily allowance and savings.
- They are to be accountable with all finances.
- It is usually not too long before they are beginning to establish themselves financially.

V. The saving money is used for their benefit

          - We encourage them to first save enough money to get a vehicle.
- Then after that they save enough money for down payments and deposits on a place to stay.

So that, by the time they are ready to graduate from The Baptist Temple Rescue Mission they:

1. Have a place to live
2. Have a car to drive
3. Have some good financial habits
4. Have their salvation settled
5. Have a church family that they have grown to know and love.
